New “No weld” Steel Challenge Cap

The NEW “No weld” Steel Challenge Cap for 2×4 post sets is the new hotness!   We use the same 3/8″ AR550 laser cut “hook” we’ve always used, and it’s still compatible with every target in the Steel Challenge line.  The difference is the 2×4 tube steel cap now has two laser cut slots in it for the hook to slide through.  The hook is retained with a single 3/8″ carriage bolt and nylock nut.

You might be asking, “why is this better?”.  Well, we’ll tell ya why!  Primarily, because we don’t have to weld the AR550 hook to the mild steel 2×4 tube steel cap.  You’ve heard us talking for 20+ years how welding to AR is bad for it.  We’ve known this all along, but couldn’t figure out how to do it better until now!  No weld means no weakened AR plate which means longer life!

BUT WAIT!!  THERE’S MORE!!!  That’s right kids!  Not only do you get a better product at the same low price, you now have interchangeability with two completely different product lines!  These caps will work with our new and improved MLS Caps and the new and improved BC-C Zone® 2×4 tube steel cap!  All three of these systems utilize the laser cut 2×4 tube steel, so all you have to do is remove one bolt, slide out the Steel Challenge hanger, slide in one of the other two caps, snug up the bolt and you’re ready to rock and roll!  There might be a more robust and modular system out there someplace, but we doubt it!

Quick note…the cap comes un-assembled.  You’ll need to slide the hanger into the laser-cut cap. It might take a little tapping, but it should go in pretty easy.  Lastly, when you’re tightening the carriage bolt (9/16″ end wrench or socket), make sure the square part of the headlines up with the “flats” in the slot.  From there, tighten it down and you’re ready to roll!

This cap can be used with any of the Steel Challenge targets but is NOT compatible with the MLS line of targets.  Here is a link for the new “no weld” caps that are compatible with the MLS Target line.

We designed the Steel Challenge Cap to fit right over a standard dimension 2×4 post.  Your Steel Challenge target plates will hang perfectly on the hook which is cut from MGM HEXALLOY 550 steel.  The cap hook is the same material as the target plates so you won’t wear it out.
