The MGM Public Range Target addresses the maintenance issue a couple of ways.  The first is by including an AR550 vertical post which is pretty much indestructible.  The post is meant to be buried in the ground.  It’s got a “wing” on the bottom of it to keep it from possibly rotating if being impacted by large calibers or getting lots of use. We’ve found the best way to make it “secure” is to put the base of the post in a five gal bucket filled with concrete and then bury it.  The other way this target helps keep you from having to work on “stuff” is by NOT welding or BOLTING anything to the target that can be shot.  The target hangs on an AR550 hanger that bolts to the vertical post behind the target.  We hid the bolts so they can’t be impacted by incoming rounds.  This proprietary design also makes it difficult for thieves to steal the target.  Sure they can if they really worked at it, but let’s be honest. Thieves are lazy and not super smart which is why they don’t have a day job.  Just to make it a little more challenging, every Public Range Target comes standard with a hole in the post and the hanger that allows you to put a padlock on it if you’re so inclined.

We offer these targets in two thickness’.  We recommend using the 3/8″ thick targets for pistol ranges.  You can use the thinner targets for rifle ranges as well, but we suggest this only if they’ll be past 300y and as the range manager you can be sure they won’t be shot with any “magnum” calibers.  If you think someone might use a “big gun” to shoot these targets, we highly recommend going with the 1″ thick AR500 plates.

If you’d like a different shape in either thickness, just give us a shout.  We can do just about anything you can imagine.  Circles, squares, diamonds and even deer, elk, pronghorn…if you can imagine it, we can build it!

We’ve also got some more “budget friendly” targets that would work similarly for this application.  The MLS IPSC shapes with T Post hanger and T Post protector will do a good job for you as well.

Another cool feature of this kit is you can still use it as a cardboard target swinger without any changes!  To make this a “lifetime product”, we chose to use an industrial grade pillow block with greaseable bearings. This will give the target an incredibly long life, and an incredibly long swing time! Grease the bearing a couple times a year and it should last indefinitely.

The moving force on the Swinger Target is a 25 pound counter weight. The position of the counter weight is adjustable to allow you to change the target response. It won’t be an incredible difference, but it will be noticeable and any variance increases challenge. The shooter starts the movement by shooting the included HEXALLOY 550 HEXPlate trigger plate activator.

Please note, the Swinger Target now comes with one HEXALLOY 550 HEXPlate activator plate as shown. You must buy your own 1″X2″ inch wood furring strips from the local hardware store to complete the target and have a surface to staple your cardboard targets to as shown in the picture.

BUT WAIT!!  THERE’S MORE!!!  That’s right kids!  Not only do you get a better product at the same low price, you now have interchangeability with two completely different product lines!  The Steel Challenge Hangers and the MLS Hangers are both interchangeable.  Both of these these systems utilize the laser cut 2×4 tube steel, so all you have to do is remove one bolt, slide out the your existing hanger, slide in your new hanger, snug up the bolt and you’re ready to rock and roll!  There might be a more robust and modular system out there someplace, but we doubt it!

So you might be asking “what’s new about it”?  Well we’ll tell you what!  The 2×4 tube steel cap now has two small laser cut slots in the front and the back of it.  These slots are for you to slide the new laser cut target hanger through.  It stays in place with a single 3/8″ carriage bolt and Nylock nut.

The next question you are probably asking is “why does that make it better?”.  There are several reasons it’s better.  First of all, there is no welding of the bracket to the 2×4 tube steel cap so that means there is one less place to break.  Another HUGE reason is because the target is now able to move in all directions when hit instead of just front to back like the old style.  Because it moves more when you hit it, it’s able to absorb more energy therefore lasting longer.  Not the final reason, but the last one we’ll discuss here is transportation and storage.  The target now just has a small angle bracket on the back of it so storage and transport are going to be a lot easier.  Basically there are NO moving parts on the target now.  This means no more pinched fingers and no more trying to figure out how to store the plate with some bulky bracket on the back of it.

So….what did we do?  With his help, we designed the Hat Creek Rifle Plate Rack!  Some of the features of this rack include;

• HEXALLOY AR550 targets Same stuff you’ve been getting for the last three or four years.  Good stuff to say the least!

• Quick change targets To put on different target shapes or sizes, all you do is pull the spring clip, slide the target to the right, and it comes off in your hand. Slide the new target in, re-install the spring clip, and get that gun loaded! One person can change all the targets in well under 2 minutes, with no tools other than strong fingers or maybe a pair of pliers. Additional target sets come with the 1″ hinge pin already on them.

• Adjustable legs  You’ll need some tools for this.  While a cordless impact is super nice, you can do it with a 3/4″ end wrench or socket and ratchet.  You’ll just need one though because we used carriage bolts.  No backer required!!

• Rifle Grade Shield is standard  While this is an option on all of the rest of our racks, we KNEW this was only going to get shot with a rifle so we went ahead and included it.  If you take it off for some reason, make sure you remember to put it back on!

The Hat Creek Rifle Plate Rack comes standard with 8″ hex plates. If you want the “truing bar” plates, KYL plates, or some other combination of plates, you can select complete sets or individual targets using the drop down menu.

The truing bar plate sets are .2 MIL tall at 900m and 7″ wide.  The KYL plate sets are 4″, 6″, 8″, 10″, and 12″.
