The MGM Targets Snapper is a device that you’ll attach two cardboard targets to for enhanced training or competition use. The operation of the Snapper is simple. Something (an opening door, a falling steel target, a rope…..) will pull the trigger lever. That action releases the back target, which will raise from the horizontal position (at ground level) to the vertical position, where it can be shot. The movement of the first target activates the second spring loaded target, which also rises from horizontal at ground level, to vertical. The purpose of the second target (the non-threat target) is to limit (or eliminate) access to the first target. Usually, the back target is a full target, and the front (white) target is a no shoot target. Depending on the course design, the front (no shoot target) can be positioned so it covers some, or all of the “shoot” target.
This target is also called Bear Trap or Clam Shell.
(PLEASE NOTE: For proper operation, use 60″ long 1″x2″ wooden sticks, the USPSA standard. The “up” speed is not adjustable mechanically, but can be slowed slightly by attaching a larger or additional piece of cardboard. Especially on the “cover” or front half of the unit, the larger cardboard will act like a sail, slowing the “rise”.)
