Invented by Gary Slider of New Martinsville, WV, the Slider Triple Dropper brings a whole new training dimension to the old one shot falling target. We at MGM are honored that Gary contacted us to be the exclusive manufacturing and sales outlet for this exceptional training tool.
Too many law enforcement agencies have no way to effectively train follow up shots. I’m referring to the mindset that inexperienced officers need to develop, that will keep them aware, alert, and alive, during and after a shooting incident. In real life, it is unfortunate that one shot isn’t always enough to get the job done. This new target REQUIRES additional shots to get the job done, so your students aren’t being mentally handicapped with the thought that you shoot once and that’s all it takes.
Gary’s new concept is simple, but incredibly effective. There are 3 different positions that the target can be shot off of, hence the name “triple dropper”. You can lean the vertical post forward or backward, to get more, or fewer drops per shot. If it is leaning backward enough, it may drop three times, all the way to the bottom. Or maybe not. If it is vertical, or leaning slightly toward the shooter, it will drop once with each shot. If you want to do simple target drills, simply leave the target all the way down, and shoot to your heart’s content.
As with all MGM products, we utilize only the finest target materials, with user friendliness as a top priority. The target itself is HEXALLOY 550 Brinell steel, (the same hardness as armor plate), with the slider bracket bolted on to it with Grade 8 carriage bolts. Rather than use a mild steel round bar for the bracket, we opted to use formed flatbar, and another Grade 8 bolt. This drives the labor and material costs up a little, but we are confident the trade off for a longer serviceable life is worth it.
The Post is angle iron with the corner toward the shooter to deflect the bullets to the side. At the bottom of the post, we have a square tube that telescopes over the square tube on the base, so no tools are required to stand the thing up.
The actual “teeth” of the unit, that provides the triple drop action are cut from a single piece of 1/2″ thick steel plate, using a WATER torch. Yes, water. Running at 60,000 psi, a .035 diameter stream of water with micro garnets injected into the cutting stream will cut 6″ plate. Several things are accomplished here. First, even though it doesn’t affect the strength of this part, there is no heat deformation. That IS critical when we are trying to maintain the .5625″ slot for our dropper mechanism to slide down. Second, unlike plasma, it gives us an excellent square surface for our Grade 8 bolt to ride down. (Plasma cuts at a very slight angle, and would tend to wear even a Grade 8 bolt out prematurely.)
Our job is to help you do your job. It is our sincere hope that this innovative new product from Gary Slider and MGM will give you one more training tool to keep your officers alive.
In February 2018 we made a permanent switch from the standard MGM Targets AR500 to the superior MGM Targets HEXALLOY 550 HEXPLATE. The new target plate material offers greater performance and longevity with rifle use and increases the value to every MGM Targets customer. The distinctive full hexagonal shape or hexagonal attributes offer up to 13% more target area than the same size round plate, and everyone will see the immediately recognizable MGM Targets HEX logo shape and know it as a genuine MGM Targets product, synonymous with quality, reliability and value.

“I ordered one of these for Kai Tac Defensive Solutions, planning to add this to the training curriculum. This target is a favorite among any students that use it. We have a life long Law Enforcement Firearms Instructor on staff that really sees the value in having a target you need to “”shoot until done.””
The system works flawlessly, as advertised. We are finding that .380 is having some difficulty with this one, but we are working on positioning/tilting the target which seems to help.
I highly recommend this target and MGM as a target company.

“These are fantastic in demonstrating that shot placement is essential and just because a target it hit, it is not “”game over””. Threats do not always go down just because they are hit. These targets reinforce the fact that follow up shots are often necessary for threat neutralization. They are a great tool to augment static steel and other falling steel. No serious range should be without these.
